We WON!!!  On Tuesday night (May 13) the Lake Elsinore City Council voted against Canyon Lake's petition for a parcel of land that belongs to Lake Elsinore to be released to Canyon Lake as part of their project to get Meadowbrook into the City of Canyon Lake.  That acreage was critical to Canyon Lake's plans to take over Meadowbrook because it is at their back gate at Greenwald Avenue.  Since Elsinore won't give up the land, Canyon Lake is effectively stopped in their tracks to get Meadowbrook.  Five of our residents spoke at the Lake Elsinore City Council meeting, asking the council to deny Canyon Lake's request.  Victory is ours!  Thank you to everyone who worked on this project to keep our Meadowbrook as a peaceful, rural community.  Join us in a victory picnic on June 1st from noon to 4 pm at Willow Creek Springs Nursery and Botanical Gardens, 26521 Hammack Avenue, Meadowbrook, (951) 436-6361.

Future Events

We're planning a Meadowbrook Victory Picnic for June 1st from noon to 4 pm!!!  Save the date and come to Willow Creek Springs Nursery and Botanical Gardens at the end of Hammack Ave in Meadowbrook.  The address is 26521 Hammack Ave  and phone number is 951-436-6361.  We're serving hotdogs and soda.  Bring a "potluck" dish, if you wish.

(Note:  For quick information about events, watch for notices to appear on the Hitching Post across the street from the Meadowbrook Market, 27215 Hwy 74 in Meadowbrook, and also look on the fence at the entrance to Hammack Ave. off Hwy 74.  We try to advise everyone about meetings that are happening very soon by posting them on the Hitching Post and the Hammack Avenue fence.

Recent Events

May 17, 2008:
RCUC (Riverside County Unified Communities) met at Boston Billie's restaurant, 26850 Cherry Hills Blvd. in Sun City.  This month's meeting of the unincorporated communities was about the danger of inaccurate voting machines at election poles.  Also, candidates for Menifee City Council spoke, and Capt James McElvain of the Riverside County Sheriff's Perris station gave an update on crime and events in his area.  This is a regularly scheduled meeting on the third Saturday of each month at 9 am.  Join us a little early for breakfast at 8 am if you like.

May 13, 3008:  We WON!!!  Tonight the Lake Elsinore City Council voted against Canyon Lake's petition for a parcel of land that belongs to Lake Elsinore to be released to Canyon Lake as part of their project to get Meadowbrook into the City of Canyon Lake.

May 1, 2008:  The CSA # 41 (County Service Area #41) monthly meeting was held at the Palm View RV Park & Campground, 22200 River Road in Meadowbrook, at 7 pm.

Apr 28, 2008:  Riverside County MAC (Municipal Advisory Council) met at the Perris Sheriff's Office.  Members of our community attended the meeting to talk with the District V Supervisor, Marion Ashley, and formally address issues within his district.

Apr 23, 2008:  Meadowbrook Community Group Meeting met at the Meadowbrook Senior RV Park on Peach St from 6 to 8 pm.  This was an "Open Discussion" meeting without a scheduled agenda.  Residents could shared their concerns and heard what others had to say.

Apr 17, 2008:  Meadowbrook Pot Luck "April Flowers" was this month's theme at the Palm View RV Park on River Rd at 5:30 pm.

Apr 11, 2008: Canyon Lake City Council met with Meadowbrook on agenda!  The council voted to pursue plans to petition LAFCO for the unincorporated community of Meadowbrook to be placed within Canyon Lake’s Sphere of Influence, and to begin process to annex 183 acres of Meadowbrook.  The original plan was to annex 400 acres of Meadowbrook, but it was changed to 183 acres.  The council claims the change was not because of possible protests from Meadowbrook.  The 183 acres is undeveloped land, with no residences, and is owned by four property owners.  All four of these owners want their land to become part of Canyon Lake, so the annexation process will be easy for Canyon Lake.  Also, part of the 183 acres of Meadowbrook is currently within the Sphere of Influence for Lake Elsinore.  The city managers of Canyon Lake and Lake Elsinore will be working out an arrangement with LAFCO to transfer the sphere to Canyon Lake.  Meadowbrook residents have no voice in this process at this time.  (If you wish, you can write a letter to the Lake Elsinore City Council and LAFCO to tell them you don’t want the Sphere of Influence with those 183 acres to go to Canyon Lake.  See our “Contacts” page for address information.)

Apr 3, 2008:  CSA # 41 (County Service Area #41) meeting  was held at the Palm View RV Park.  The meeting was about roads development, paving, and maintenance in Meadowbrook.  This is a regularly scheduled meeting at the Palm View RV Park & Campground, 22200 River Road in Meadowbrook, at 7 pm on the first Thursday of each month.  Come join us to learn about how to get your road paved!

Apr 2, 2008:  Eighteen Meadowbrook residents attended the Canyon Lake City Council meeting at 7 pm.  Six residents spoke about their opposition to the proposed sphere of influence/annexation plan.  The City Council members were not particularly gracious in their attitude toward our people, and one council member said, "You people don't know what you're talking about."

Mar 26, 2008:  Monthly meeting of the Meadowbrook Community at the Meadowbrook RV Park on Peach St.   Over 30 people attended this meeting!  This month we had another visit from Codes Enforcement personnel who told us about the county's newest plans to enforce county codes which are even more strict than before!  Thanks to all of you who are showing interest and concern about our community.

Also on Mar 26, 2008:  Four letters to the editor were published in the weekly Perris Progress newspaper in opposition to the proposed annexation by Canyon Lake.  Good going gang!  Let's keep the heat on and let them know we're united and strong.

Mar 24, 2008:
Representatives from Meadowbrook attended the MAC (Municipal Advisory Council) meeting at the Perris Sheriff's Office.  District V Supervisor Marion Ashley was present, along with the local Perris council members.  The agenda covered issues related to Perris and the Good Hope and Meadowbrook areas.  Unfortunately, this meeting only requires a 72-hour advanced notice to the public, which gives little time to notify residents about the time and place.  For this meeting, the council met the minimum requirements by posting a one-page notice on the front door of the Perris Sheriff's Office--hardly an efficient way to notify the local residents who have little need to go there.

Mar 22 & 23, 2008:  Save Meadowbrook Rally and petition signing was held again this weekend, opposite the Meadowbrook Market at Hwy 74 and Meadowbrook Ave.  A lot of motorists stopped by to say "hi" and sign our petition.  Our numbers are growing!  Thanks to everyone for all your support!

Mar 15, 2008:
Monthly meeting of Riverside County Unified Communities (RCUC) was held at Boston Billie's in Sun City at 9:00 am.  The RCUC is organized to support  the Unincorporated Communities in our area.  Our mutual interests are to preserve our rural lifestyle, to learn about threats to our independent community status, and to enjoy each other's company and support.  This month's speaker was the Sheriff of Riverside County.

Mar 9, 2008:   Noon, Save Meadowbrook Rally and petition signing again today opposite the Meadowbrook Market, at Hwy 74 and Meadowbrook Ave.  We had a good time with the kids, dogs, horses and even a goat visited us!  Everyone enjoyed the free sodas!

Mar 8, 2008:
10:00 am, our Save Meadowbrook community campaign activated the following plans:
1--to advertise its opposition to Canyon Lake annexation plans
2--to initiate a letter writing campaign
3--to begin a petition drive.  We held our first Save Meadowbrook Rally for petition signing at intersection of Hwy 74 and Meadowbrook Ave, opposite the Meadowbrook Market.  Free sodas!!!  A lot of people stopped by to say "Hi!" and signed our petition.  It was a great start, thanks to everyone who helped!

Mar 7, 2008:    Official publication of website "SaveMeadowbrook.org"

Mar 6, 2008:
Monthly Roads Meeting of  residents and leaders at Riverview  RV Park in Meadowbrook to discuss the paving of streets within Meadowbrook (County Area 51).  We also had a unprogramed visit by three members of the Riverside County Codes Enforcement unit to explain their new streamlined processes and plans to help our community.  Following that meeting was a lively discussion about our efforts to stop the sphere of influence and annexation efforts by Canyon Lake.  We also began our Save Meadowbrook petition and letter signing drive.

Mar 5, 2008:     Meadowbrook representatives attended Canyon Lake City Council meeting to officially declare opposition to the city's annexation and Sphere of Influence plans to take over Meadowbrook.

Mar 2, 2008:     Meadowbrook leadership held an informal meeting in Quail Valley to discuss organization plans for Save Meadowbrook and assess our options for opposition strategies.

Feb 29, 2008:     Press Enterprise newspaper published article about Canyon Lake's coveting Meadowbrook acreage.  The item appeared on page B1 of the Local section in the Southwestern Edition.

Feb 28, 2008:     Meadowbrook representatives attended Riverside LAFCO meeting to get more information about the Sphere of Influence and annexation process.

Feb 27, 2008:     Meadowbrook leaders called a special meeting to discuss the proposed loss of their community and to plan strategies for opposition.  This website is a product of that meeting.  Additional efforts are planned, including:  public signs, a formal petition of opposition to the City of Canyon Lake, letters to the editors of local newspapers,  a letter writing campaign by individual residents to key influentials within the county, local cities, and state agencies.  Our motto is "Say NO to Canyon Lake and Lake Elsinore!"

Feb 26, 2008:     City Council of Canyon Lake met to discuss and initiate plans to annex Meadowbrook acreage north of its Greenwald Avenue gate.  They also took action to add the Meadowbrook community into its "Sphere of Influence" which is a formal term for part of the annexation process.  A Sphere of Influence is a planning boundary outside a city limit that  formally "earmarks" the area as potential land for city expansion.  Spheres of Influence are controlled by the Local Agency Formation Commission (known as LAFCO), a California State agency.
